DAIKIN Reefer has announced that container leasing company, Cronos Group,
has become the first customer for its new "Zestia" refrigeration units for
containers, reports American Shipper.

It said Cronos took delivery of 500 units in November made in Suzhou, for
use by MOL that were installed in new 40-foot high cube containers.

Cronos is said to have about 800,000 TEU in its fleet and about 35,000 TEU
of reefer containers.

Said Cronos vice president Matt Dowling: "Other container types can cost up
to eight to 10, sometimes 12 times more than a 20-foot dry. We bought a
little over US$500 million of equipment in 2011, but only 40 per cent of
these were dries."

The latest units utilise DC-inverter technology and incorporate other
advanced features designed to offer "ultra-low energy consumption".
