Shpg Gazette 3/2/12 GENEVA's Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) will make a double call at Norfolk, Virginia, with its Golden Gate service to allow for a final chance for US east coast exporters to get their consignments to Asia. The call will have the advantage of allowing export cargo from New York, and northern Virginia/Washington, and North Carolina which normally transits Charleston and Baltimore. It can make use of the port of Virginia's 50-foot draft. "While other east coast ports are battling one another over federal dollars to dredge to get ready for the opening of an expanded Panama Canal, Virginia is ready," said Virginia Port Authority executive director Jerry Bridges. "It is decisions like the one that prove we're ready for the big ships that will come through both the Panama and Suez canals." The revised port rotation is: Ningbo, Shanghai, Shenzhen-Chiwan, Shenzhen-Yantian, Singapore, Salaleh, New York, Norfolk, Baltimore, Savannah, Freeport, Charleston, Norfolk, Jeddah, Colombo, Singapore, Shenzhen-Chiwan, Hong Kong and back to Ningbo. |
