ALPHALINER says that 42 ships of more than 6,000 TEU are classed as idle as at April 20.

Within this total, Maersk Line currently has the highest number of large ships idle with 14 such ships, followed by APL which has eight ships of above 6,000 TEU that are inactive.

The remaining large idle ships comprise five from CSAV, three from CSCL, two from OOCL, two from MISC, two from IRISL, and one each from MOL, MSC, Evergreen, HMM, Cosco and UASC, according to Alphaliner records.

Laid up ships classified as idle include carrier-controlled ships left without service assignment, chartered ships redelivered to owners with no further employment, ships in long term lay-up, and ships damaged or under long time repairs.
