Hong Kong's April volume falls 9.3pc to 1.6 million TEU

HONG KONG port saw the decline in throughput accelerate in April, with
overall volume down 9.3 per cent year on year to 1.6 million TEU,
pulled down by a sharp drop in volumes among the mid-stream operators
after non-Kwai Tsing throughput dived 16.7 per cent to 350,000 TEU.

The main Kwai Tsing terminals registered a seven per cent decrease in
container traffic to 1.3 million TEU, according to the Hong Kong
Marine Department.

In the first four months of the year overall cumulative throughput was
down 2.8 per cent to 6.5 million TEU compared to the corresponding
period in 2017.

Volumes moving through the mid-stream operators declined by 1.6 per
cent to 1.4 million TEU in the first four months of the year.
